15 Best Swiss Chocolate Brands From Switzerland For All The Chocolate Lovers

Swiss chocolate is the best kind of chocolate you can ever taste. The perfect creamy bar that’ll melt into your mouth in a second allowing you to savor its richness. While raw ingredients can be supplied from outside the country, the chocolate itself is produced inside Switzerland. And that is what earns this beloved chocolate its name.

This Switzerland chocolate is widely known and loved for its creamy and rich flavor. Swiss Chocolates originated in Switzerland in the 17th century. And following the end of the 19th century, the fame of chocolates from Switzerland had reached outside the country.

Over the course of time, many Swiss Chocolate brands emerged deeming the increasing demand for Swiss chocolate. But Switzerland did not emerge as the finest chocolate producer for no reason at all. There is a solid list of grounds that helped the nation rise in the industry of chocolate making.

Types Of Swiss Chocolate Available In The Market

Take a look at the types of chocolate available in the market:

  • Bittersweet Chocolate – This type of chocolate contains a raw form of chocolate along with cocoa butter and sugar as other ingredients. The production ensures that every bite gives off the perfect bitter and sweet taste the moment it melts on your tongue.
  • White Chocolate – Alright, so technically, this is not even a bar of chocolate. Why? Because it does not contain any cocoa beans. It is all just pure milk and sugar.
  • Cocoa Powder – Cocoa powder is simply the powder of cocoa beans. After separating the seeds from the outer shell, they are ground and made into powder. People love using cocoa powder to make hot chocolate cups and chocolate milk. Cocoa powder typically contains about 20% cocoa butterfat.
  • Unsweetened Chocolate – This is the purest form of chocolate made from the hardened swiss chocolate liqueur. Most commonly it is used in baking as an important ingredient. And it’s popularly known as baking chocolate, pure chocolate, or bitter chocolate.

A Simple Guide To The Best Quality Swiss Chocolates

With the love for Swiss chocolates and the growing number of Swiss Chocolate brands, it has become almost impossible to choose from the vast variety. That too, when all offer quality and superior taste.

So, I’ve listed down a few points to keep in mind while looking for the perfect Swiss bar.

1. Cocoa Content

Like every other ingredient, Cocoa content is a very important aspect to consider while choosing the right type of Swiss Chocolate. It is understandable that an average company would naturally want to reduce the cost of its production while increasing the prices of its products.

Do not be tempted by the high cocoa content in a chocolate bar. It is likely that half of the cocoa would be of poor quality. Prefer Swiss Chocolate with a decent ( if not lower ) cocoa content. This will most possibly mean that the cocoa beans used are of superior quality.

2. Keep A Check On Sugar

Although many know that sugar is not the best health ingredient, almost all the regular chocolate bars are made with sugar as an essential component. Many brands also, often, go overboard while using this ingredient. Keep a close look at the sugar content.

A chocolate bar may contain at most 40% to 50% sugar or no sugar at all. Although it ultimately relies on your personal taste and favorite, it would always be advisable to look for a decent amount of sugar for consumption.

3. Flavorings

Avoid artificial flavors and colors. Only opt for the type of Swiss Chocolate that has no added colors or flavors. Switzerland chocolates are usually high quality and only use high-standard ingredients.

No matter how many swiss chocolate brands you compare, it is highly unlikely that you would ever come across any quality issues with Swiss Chocolate.

4. Organic Cocoa Beans

There’s a thing called fair trade cocoa beans. Cocoa beans are very difficult to grow and harvest for cocoa farmers. Fairtrade chocolates refer to the type that ensures that the cocoa producers earn their share of income from the sales.

Choosing organic cocoa beans products will also ensure you stay safe from all the harmful pesticides or artificially grown beans.

  1. Thanks for introducing Ragusa! Recently I visited Switzerland and I tasted it. I did not see much information about Ragusa in other website. It is a good quality chocolate at reasonable price. Chocolates are also having large variety with great diversity, taste. I tasted other chocolates also from your list. I didn’t like caramel Lindt version.
Thanks for your detailed Swiss chocolate guide.

  2. The list deserves Felchlin, which is one of not only Switzerland’s, but the World’s top chocolate makers (regarding quality, sustainability & practices). Regarding Lindt: unfortunately, the vast majority of Lindt chocolate in the US is manufactured in Stratham, NH, so it’s not ‘real’ Swiss chocolate anymore, just American chocolate with Swiss roots. There are only about 5-7 blends (all bars) in the US actually made in Switzerland (I would not call LINDOR truffles Swiss…). Goldkenn should deserve an honorable mention as well – otherwise, great content!
