Everything You Ever Needed to Know About The Tapioca Pearl Or Boba
The tapioca pearl, also/and commonly known as “boba” is made from cassava starch. For those of you who do not know what cassava starch is, it is a root vegetable found in South America that is also referred to as yuca.
Boba pearls are soft and chewy. They have a gel-like pearl appearance and can be easily found available in your nearby stores or online stores.
Bobas are available in both black and white colors. However, if you ask me, I would say, I would like to go with the black color. Why? I like the appearance black bobas give to the drink. However, both the white and black bobas are similar in taste and size.
There are many mouth-watering flavors to choose from with Boba, which makes this beverage especially appealing to sweet-tooth drinkers.

Where Is Boba From?
Taiwan is the place from where, Bobo, the drink in its entirety originates. Roughly, it might have started something around the 1980s. Gradually, over the years, boba gained popularity. From coffee shops and juice bars to restaurants, it has made its place in the world. However, it is disputed which city/town or restaurant/shop it actually started from.
Originally, tapioca pearls were used in shaved ice desserts. They have complimented beans, syrups, beans, and delectably chewy rice balls. During that time, even milk tea was very popular and consumed widely. It is during that time someone decided to merge the two, thus creating the first beverage/drink to be consumed with boba. Rest is history. Over time, recipes evolved, and people experimented with several things. Boba in smoothies has a separate fanbase.

Tapioca Pearls made their way across the globe through Taiwanese neighborhoods and blossomed. Initially, it was sold near the college and high school campuses where students would gather for study groups and relish boba drinks.
Even today, most boba shops are open late and have reasonably priced snacks and drinks, which make them ideal for late-night study sessions and hangouts making them popular among the youth. Don’t get me wrong, it is equally popular among other age groups.

Taste Of The Tapioca Pearl Or Boba
If you ask people who’ve never had boba pearls, they might think about it as the strange feeling of splurging a chewy pearl up through a straw, chewing it while having the drink. So, if you are one of them, you might have wondered what boba tastes like?
Most of the time, it’s very sweet! The consistency is usually frothy but cream when slurped through a straw, and the texture is like tapioca balls. If it’s slushy, it will be quite cold and thick, but not as thick as a milkshake or juice bar drink.
Overall, it has a very sweet taste. When sucked through the straw, boba gives a creamy yet frothy texture. However, it is noteworthy that the taste of boba tea will vary between each type of drink/beverage/smoothie it is consumed in.
Across the globe, you will find hundreds of boba smoothie flavors in the boba smoothie menu. The options could be as versatile as matcha boba smoothie, strawberry boba smoothie, etc.

Health Benefits Of Boba
Is boba healthy? Do you find yourself asking this question? Well, here you go.
Unfortunately, boba alone provides very few health benefits but BOBA SMOOTHIE ABUNDANCE OF HEALTH BENEFITS. While the calories derived from boba provide energy, There are not any substantial health or nutrition advantages from consuming boba separately because:
- The carbohydrate in boba is derived from starch. There is less than 1g each of fiber and sugars. However, if you consume boba in a smoothie there will be other ‘rich in nutrients’ ingredients in the smoothie which will substantially increase the overall nutrition.
- There is no fat in boba. Nevertheless, several boba recipes are made with milk, cream, and other dairy products. This recipe has coconut milk, condensed milk, etc which will increase the amount of fat in the drink.
