Origin Of Macarons

The word macaron is derived from the Italian word maccherone. When macarons were first introduced, they were very different from what we know today. When they were first created, they were more like cookies made with just almond flour, sugar, and egg whites. Although they were crunchy on the outside, they were soft on the inside.

Despite their association with France, macarons are actually believed to have originated in Italy and were brought over in the 16th century by Catherine de Medici, queen of France.

You can try the macarons with all-purpose flour instead of almond flour. I tried with both almond flour and all-purpose flour. There is really a huge difference in terms of the flavor and texture even though the appearance is the same.
